Hi there, I'm Emily!
Thanks for checking out Upstaged Reviews. I am an independent theatre reviewer who started out as an avid theatre-goer/drama enthusiast who wanted to express and articulate the flurry of ideas and emotions that arise after seeing a great show. Based in Sydney, along my reviewing journey thus far I have been inspired by the calibre of work emanating from our local stages by both fledgling and seasoned artists. I hope to bring these gems to the fore, in an honest dialogue between audience and artist.
I rather enjoy acting myself, and am currently studying under Kevin Jackson, having studied part time with the Actors Studio at NIDA last year. I also study law and arts at university.
I have performed in Romeo and Juliet (Sydney Shakespeare Company, directed by Steven Hopley), Rausch (NIDA Actors Studio, directed by Elsie Edgerton-Till), The Game's Afoot (Castle Hill Players, directed by Paul Sztelma), and Steel Magnolias (Castle Hill Players, directed by Valerie Miller). Whilst at high school, I competed in Theatre Sports improvisational competitions in both Australia and New Zealand, and was in the NSW State Drama Ensemble. I received a NSW OnStage nomination for my HSC monologue, “Misery”.
I have been delighted to see the growth and evolution of Upstaged Reviews thus far. In addition to publishing reviews and interviews on this site, I have also contributed to the publications of Absolute Theatre and The Ladies Network.
